Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)
In our wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM), also known as wire-cut EDM and wire cutting process, a thin brass wire, is fed through the workpiece, submerged in a tank of dielectric fluid, typically deionized water. The wire, which is constantly fed from a spool, is held between upper and lower diamond guides which are centered in a water nozzle head.
With this capability, we can create complex shapes that would otherwise be difficult to produce with conventional cutting tools. It allows us to machine extremely hard material to very close tolerances and create very small work pieces where conventional cutting tools may damage the part from excess cutting tool pressure. Since there is no direct contact between tool and work piece materials can be machined without perceivable distortion and good surface finish can also be obtained.
We employ EDM (electrical discharge machining) to help hold tight, precise tolerances and deliver on requirements for complex geometries in our solder and braze preforms as well as our thermal management tabs, spreaders, and hermetic housings. This process is also used to efficiently manufacture tooling for use across or range of products.
